Our treatments are based on Eastern medicine and the modalities of Acupuncture and Tui Na.
What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is both an art and science that is a natural system of health care which stimulates the body's ability to heal itself. It is based on the theory of Qi (pronounced 'chee'), which can be described as the life-force within you. Qi is said to circulate within specific pathways of the body called meridians. Illness arises when the Qi balance is off. Acupuncture will readjust the balance so health can be fully restored.
While acupuncture can alleviate chronic pain and alter states of mind, it can also enhance your recuperative power, immunity, and the capability for pleasure, work, and creativity.
What is an Acupuncture treatment like? Patients find the treatments to be a very pleasant experience, describing it as deeply relaxing or sometimes energizing. The needles used are about the size of one hair; we use as few needles as necessary. The needle insertions may feel like a small quick pinch or nothing at all. To prepare for a treatment, all you need to do is wear loose-fitting clothing. Most of the points used are on your arms, legs or back.
What is Tui Na? Tui Na is the ancient healthcare bodywork of China. This type of bodywork combines soft tissue manipulation and Traditional Chinese Medical Theory. When a practitioner uses direct physical manipulation of the tissues, they can often realign the person's muscular structure. This can produce an altering of the posture and allow more of the body's own energy to move freely within the body, resulting in healing or maintaining health rather than keeping the energetic pathways blocked by bad posture. Massage techniques like Neuro-Muscular re-education, trigger point therapy, and myofacial release combined with the Tui Na style of massage will effectively and quickly bring relief from chronic pain conditions. These techniques combined with acupuncture will help the person to re-establish the muscle structure, promoting a stronger physical basis for the maintenance of good health.
